It’s Awards Season! How Does Your Content Rate?
Well, we’re smack dab in the middle of the entertainment industry’s awards season. The Golden Globes have been handed out, the Screen Actors Guild Awards have been presented, and the Academy Awards are just ahead. And while winners of the annual Content Marketing Awards (CMAs) won’t be named until September, the Content Marketing Institute (CMI) has just announced its “call for entries.”
The Real “Awards” Your Content Can Earn
Now, like many people, I tend to chuckle a bit at all the hoopla around the entertainment awards. Don’t get me wrong, these folks are great at what they do, and some of the movies and TV shows they produce are interesting, engaging, and enlightening to be sure. But all the fuss about who’s wearing what on the red carpet, who should or should not have been given an award, etc. makes me roll my eyes just a bit.
To be fair, I guess many (or most?) people probably have the same reaction to the CMAs. And to some degree, I’m with them. The “awards” you’re really looking to win by producing high quality content come from your target personas, and they include their:
- Initial awareness
- Ongoing readership
- Social sharing
- Trust
- Business
- Continued loyalty
If your content marketing efforts are delivering those things, your award (or rather your reward) will be steadily increasing conversions and a beautiful upward trend on your sales chart.
But, Why Not?
All the above said, there’s certainly nothing wrong with getting a little press for your efforts. Not only do awards (from CMI or anyone else) give your content creation team a nice pat on the back, they also serve to reassure executives at your company that the time and effort you’re putting into your inbound marketing program are being well-spent.
